Shakuntala, a character from Hindu mythology, is the wife of Dushyanta and the mother of Emperor Bharat (India is officially named as Bharatavarsa after him). Shakuntala first met with King Dushyanta in a forest when the king was hunting. She was taking care of a deer, wounded by King Dushyanta’s arrow. They fell in love with each other and got married. After marriage the king Dushyanta gave his personal royal ring to Shakuntala as a symbol of his promise to return and bring her to his palace. In these days, Shakuntala used to be absorbed in deep thoughts about her husband. This figure portrays Shakuntala, absorbed and lost in her deepest thoughts. This led her to be cursed by rishi Durvasa later.
